Support for Grassroots

The Sunshine Coast Sports Federation support grassroots sports and those tireless volunteers who create the pathway to higher levels at local clubs.


To promote and sustain interest in the development of sport in the Sunshine Coast region.

Signing up to fundraise through the Sports Foundation is quick and easy and allows your club to fundraise for anything it needs to develop your sport through tax deductible donations!


An individual athlete can fundraise $5000 with the Sports Foundation in a year!

Recognising the outstanding sporting contributions by athletes, administrators, coaches, officials, media, volunteers, and others on the Sunshine Coast through the Sports Star of the Year Awards.



Through the Federation, providing best practice governance and management standards that can be replicated by its members.

This program provides a range of benefits and services to assist elite and emerging athletes in balancing the demands of their training and competition schedules with their university study commitments.

Board Members

Benny Pike

Benny is a tireless community worker for sport on the Sunshine Coast. He has successfully conducted the Monthly and Annual Sunshine Coast Sports Awards bringing in considerable sponsorship to support the local athletes.

He has been a Commonwealth Games participant as well as an ABC Radio commentator at numerous Commonwealth and Olympic Games. Benny initiated the establishment of the SC Sport Federation and continues to work to ensure its long term sustainability.

Des Sykes

Des Sykes new to the area having moved to Alexandra Headlands.Former Australian boxing champion. Also heavily involved in Redcliffe Rugby Union and marathon running.
Des is still very active and enjoying his role as treasurer.

Gary Olive

He has been involved as an active member in surf lifesaving since 1979 at Maroochydore SLSC.

GAZ has long history of assisting with fundraising for both Commonwealth and Olympic Games Teams.
HE brings extensive PRACTICAL experience and ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS to the committee.

Jenny Lawson

Jenny Lawson is a business, award and grant writer who has secured millions of dollars for local organisations and businesses over the last ten years.

She is also a Sports and Paediatric Physiotherapist with 25 years’ experience in management, sports, orthopaedics and disability. She has been on numerous National Boards in Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy, self-employed with three busy clinics and has been a manager of allied health staff in large practices.

Marayke Jonkers

 Marayke is a former Paralympic Athlete, who is currently the founding manager of Sporting Dreams which is a grant scheme assisting QLD athletes with disabilities to cover costs of equipment, competition and training.

She has raised over $49000 for athletes with disabilities. She has wide experience on sports Boards and a sought-after presenter and speaker.

Peta Rogerson

Peta is a past SC Sports Federation Sports Star of the Year and recently retired Australian Women’s Touch Football Captain who won 3 World Championships in her illustrious career.

She is currently working as HPE Teacher on the Sunshine Coast and brings a wealth of Sport experience to the Board.

Daniel Murphy

Dan has been an advocate for sport on the Sunshine Coast for over 28 years & is committed to the development of grass roots sport. A key stakeholder in the formation of the Sunshine Coast Basketball Association, he has also been involved locally in tennis, canoeing and triathlon. Dan is the Sports Federation Secretary.

Aaron Flanagan

Aaron has 20 years experience in sports, leisure, tourism and events and working across various roles in the thoroughbred racing industry, the AFL with Port Adelaide Football Club, Basketball Australia and most recently as COO of the Aussie World Tourism Precinct.

Aaron is Director of Eighty20 Partners a boutique consultancy based on the Sunshine Coast supporting the sports, leisure, tourism and events sector.
