Expressions of interest are called for the positions on the Judging Panel for the Sunshine Coast Sports Awards.
The Awards are the legacy of the Sunshine Coast Sports Federation in recognising and rewarding Sunshine Coast athletes, officials, volunteers, administrators, and clubs and that the history of the region’s sports awards be retained for future generations.
Sunshine Coast Sports was launched in 2021 with a vision….To be a respected independent, community sport minded, regional body that champions and supports grass roots sport on the Sunshine Coast, promoting participation and enabling athletes to achieve their goals and aspirations.
The continuation of the Sunshine Coast Sports Awards is a key strategic objective to achieve this vision. The Awards are a valued and prestigious platform for recognising the achievements of grass roots sports athletes, teams, clubs, volunteers, and administrators.
The new 2021 – 2025 Sunshine Coast Sports Strategic Plan proposes that the Sunshine Coast Sports Awards be revised to have a greater focus on youth, grass roots community sport and amateur achievements.
The Sunshine Coast Sports Awards are intended to provide a comprehensive suite reflecting sporting endeavour across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa Local Government Areas and encouraging and progressing sporting endeavour.
Awards will be decided quarterly and annually. Panellists will be required to sit in deliberations on at least three and no more than five occasions annually. Five panellists from a group of eight will be selected each quarter and annually, determined by availability, conflicts of interest, and if all are available, drawing of lots.
Panellists will be required to apply a criterion, and be balanced, impartial and fair.
They will also be required to comply with a Terms of Reference for the Panel.
The panellists will all have the following skills and attributes:
- Live in the Sunshine Coast or Noosa Regions;
- An outstanding understanding of grassroot sports in the regions;
- Experience in administration, coaching, playing or officiating grassroot sport for more than 5 years in the last 10 years;
- Ability to work in a timely, confidential, and professional manner.
The panellists (who sit in deliberation from time to time) will:
- Not be related to any award nominee in any way;
- Not have a coaching, or other affiliation with the award nominees;
- Declare any conflict and remove themselves from that panel if there is a conflict;
The Panel of eight will consist of diverse backgrounds and experiences, including, but not limited to people with lived experiences that encompass:
- First Nations
- Gender/s and non-binary
- Disability
- Masters’ sports events or recreational activities
- Junior sport
- Education
- Health and welfare
- Bespoke and mainstream sports
- Previous judging experience
- Sport and junior development
- Sport talent Identification
- Media and promotions
- Mentoring
