Our board is a team of dedicated volunteers who offer their time to champion grass roots sport on the Sunshine Coast to enable athletes to achieve their goals by securing funding, partnerships and other opportunities for Sunshine Coast sport.
Kaitlyn Akers
Board Member
With 20+ years leadership experience, QFES MRIT Executive Manager, former GM Operations SLSQ, is driven to work that helps organisations align their operations with strategic goals by leading change, promoting sustainable innovation.
Kaitlyn is an advocate for positive impacts volunteers contribute to local economies and community, AICD member, Fellow of Institute of Management and brings her deep knowledge of governance for NFPs to support sustainable grass roots sport for the Sunshine Coast community.
Charlie Hemming
Board Member
Charlie has over 25 years’ experience in senior marketing and product management roles in various Business to Business, Business to Consumer and Community-based Sporting organisations.
His collaborative leadership style and strategic focus provides a depth of knowledge and perspective that will help evolve the contribution that Sunshine Coast Sports provides our local communities. Charlie’s personal commitment to achieving quality outcomes and a passion for delivering value is complemented by a Master of Business in Marketing, Graduate Certificate in Finance and an under-graduate Sports Management degree.
Angela Coombes
Board Member
A technology leader with a passion for community sports, Angela offers a unique perspective on community sports growth and operational excellence.
Her focus on community outreach and inclusive programs will enhance the organisation’s ability to build strong partnerships with local sports clubs and expand its impact for athletes across the Sunshine Coast. Angela has been a volunteer for various sports programs as a player, manager, Coach, mentor, committee member and spokesperson for community sports clubs in Australia and Samoa covering Rugby Union, Surf Life Saving, Kitesurfing and Wakeboarding.
Jo Watkins
Board Member
Jo Watkins (Hons), MBA, GAICD has over 20 years of experience across diverse sectors, including positions in an ASX-listed funds management firm, a for-purpose organisation, state government, and, most recently, leading a global trilateral Higher Education partnership. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and an MBA, specialising in Change Management. Additionally, she is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has completed the Australian Sports Commission’s Director Education programs. Jo’s expertise spans strategy development, operational excellence, and stakeholder relationship management. She combines analytical insight with visionary thinking to drive organisational success. Committed to effective governance, Jo applies her strong understanding of leadership, finance and risk management to deliver impactful outcomes. A lifelong passion for sports, particularly netball, has been central to Jo’s personal and professional life, shaping her ability to foster teamwork and collaboration.
Matt Daly
Board Member
Matt has built a successful career across both sport and business. As a highly accomplished sporting professional, with multible national titles, demonstrating his dedication and strategic approach.
Matt held regional management roles in the Retirement Living industry before turning his attention to the wine industry. Over the past decade, has grown Posh Plonk into a well-regarded boutique wine brand, becoming the leading choice for Australian wine lovers and gift givers alike.
When Matt and hes family moved back to the Sunshine Coast, it was hes daughters involvement in grass roots sport that has motivated him to support and give back to such a vibrant and important part of the Sunshine Coast community.
Mark Sayers
Board Member
Associate Professor Mark Sayers PhD RMIT, MAppSci Canberra, BAppSci CCAE, joined the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) in 2005, having worked as a sports scientist since the 1980’s. Mark has an extensive background in the biomechanics of team sports, technique analysis, and the development of sports specific speed and power. He is a Level 2 Accredited Sport Scientist with Exercise and Sport Science Australia and is the current Director of highly successful UniSC High Performance Sport programme. Mark has an extensive experience in high performance sport and has been a consultant biomechanist and coach for several national and international high profile sporting bodies and is recognised internationally for his work on the key skills in the sport of rugby union. His involvement in the sport of Rugby includes working as the biomechanist and special skills coach for the New Zealand All Blacks between 2000 and 2001 and again from 2004 to 2008 and was credited as being a key aspect of the team’s success over that period.
Babette Bensoussan

For over 25 years Babette Bensoussan has served as an advisor to organisations and business leaders around the world. A recognized global authority on Competitive Intelligence, and one of the most published authors and well-regarded speakers in her field, Babette brings valuable insights to entrepreneurs, business leaders and senior executives.
Babette has a wealth of experience in coaching executives and has a unique talent for supporting leaders in their decision-making skills. Her coaching and mentoring sessions proving to be an invaluable source of support and inspiration to leaders, employees and anyone with a keen interest in business strategy, decision making and personal career transitions.
Babette is a qualified counselor, coach, MBTI practitioner and the only Australian executive coach certified to use the Energy Leadership Index™ (ELI), a revolutionary leadership development tool used to measure, harness and enhance personal and professional leadership qualities.
Her experience as an entrepreneur, internationally recognized author, lecturer and non-executive director means she is sought after for her expertise in in the elements of good decision-making.
