At just 12-years-old, Sunshine Coast star Ellie Burrows has already made a massive impact in the world of competitive skateboarding. Her journey began in 2019, when she discovered her dad’s old skateboard in the garage and instantly fell in love with the sport at only seven years old. Through weekly practice sessions with her dad's support and coaching, Ellie was able to quickly progress her skills and her natural talent was undeniable. From this her dad even built her a custom adjustable rail for her to practice on.
Ellie’s success started in 2020, at a skate competition held in Esk.
"My skateboarding was progressing steadily and I was excited to have a platform to showcase my new skills and an opportunity to put a run of tricks together. My journey competing began, gaining experience performing under pressure, identifying a real focus on technique and trick consistency."
From this Ellie started competing regularly in local competitions obtaining first and second placings consistently.
"With the stamina and fitness I obtained through my skateboarding training I began to excel in school sports, being awarded age champion in Athletics two years in a row and cross country winner in my age category two years running."
In 2023, Ellie’s hard work and achievements were recognised as she was selected for the Youfor2032 program and the Skate Australia Pathways program, positioning her for potential Olympic competition. Her rise has caught the attention of major sponsors, with Ghanda Clothing signing her to their kids’ grom team in May 2023 and Etnies providing her with high-quality skate shoes.
Now Ellie has her sights set on the upcoming Redbank Plains Apex Am Series and Pro Tour Street event from June 28-29 in Brisbane. As part of Australia’s first National Talent Development Program in Street Skateboarding, she continues refining her skills with hopes of one day competing on the world stage.
